The present critical situation is a legacy left by Armenia’s first
president Levon Ter-Petrosyan, German Ambassador to Armenia, Mr.
Hans-Jochen Schmidt said at a discussion “20th years of independence
in Armenia and region.”
He had a meeting with Armenian MPs a few days ago, and they shared
this opinion.
At his rallies Ter-Petrosyan is constantly critical of all elections.
Mr. Hans-Jochen Schmidt asked one of Ter-Petrosyan’s advisors about
his opinion on the elections held from 1992 through 1997 and on the
incidents that occurred. His advisor answered the German ambassador
had been misinformed. “But I think criticism must be accepted with
credit,” said Mr. Hans-Jochen Schmidt.
Oligarchy is a painful issue, but it is the policy of that time that
caused the oligopoly-forming process, the German ambassador said.
