Nagorno-Karabakh held elections to improve life-standards – Russian MFA

September 23, 2011 | 21:49

MOSCOW. – Final status of Nagorno-Karabakh may be resolved only
through negotiations, Russian MFA stated, Interfax reports.

`We believe that Karabakh future status should be gained as a result
of political talks between the conflicting sides and within the Minsk
process, based on the principle of non-application of force,
territorial integrity and the right of self-determination,’ official
representative of Russian MFA Aleksander Lukashevich commented in
response to clarify Russia’s position for the recent local elections
held in Karabakh.

Russian MFA considers that the local elections in Karabakh were
directed to the establishment of natural conditions to improve life
standards. However, Russia with other states does not recognize
Karabakh as an independent state, the diplomat stressed.

Nagorno-Karabakh held local elections on September.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
