YEREVAN, September 23. /ARKA/. Armenian jewellery industry’s sales
totalled AMD 4.7 billion in Jan-June 2011 – 6.5% year-on-year growth,
Hayk Mirzoyan, Armenian economy ministry’s industrial policy division,
said on Thursday.

He told journalists that the jewellery industry’s exports totalled
AMD 4.4 billion – 5% year-on-year growth.

“This industry has started regaining momentum after the crisis, and
the government pays special attention to this sector,” he said. “We
hope this rally will continue.”

Mirzoyan said that the government decided in 2010 to exempt jewellery
companies from taxes and create preferential regimes. This step gave
a fresh impetus to the jewellery industry.

Armenian jewellery companies, he said, are now negotiating with
Russian suppliers to buy diamonds from them.

Some 31 jewellery companies operate in Armenia. ($1 = AMD 373.94).

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
