YEREVAN. – Armenian parliament adopted amendments on ‘The Citizenship
of Armenia” law in the first reading.

The bill withdraws the requirement to pass the exam in the Armenian
language on Armenian Constitution. The law states that certain groups
of people (Armenian by origin, spouse of Armenian citizens, parents
of a child of Armenian citizenship) get the citizenship without having
lived in the state or the knowledge of the language. Passing the exam
in the Armenian language on Armenian Constitution is also withdrawn.

Children of 14-18 years old, whose parents have received the
citizenship, may get it providing written statement.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
