YEREVAN. – Departments to protect the rights of families, women
and children at Yerevan city hall and Armenia’s regions violated
legislative power, said MP from Heritage Party Anahit Bakhshyan.

Bakhshyan said her conclusions are based on number of reports provided
by Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.

“For instance, according to the data provided by the Yerevan
municipality and heads of regional administrations, the number
of children enrolled in secondary state and specialized schools
makes 381,699. The figure differs from the data provided by “General
Education in Armenia 2009-2010″guidebook. This is a clear violation of
the fundamental right of children to education,” she told journalists
on Tuesday.

Bakhshyan also pointed out violation of the right to education for
children with disabilities.

She also recalled the incident which occurred in Gyumri orphanage.

“Director of this orphanage – Ruzan Avagyan abused power causing a AMD
4 million damage to Armenia’s budget. She was arrested then released
without paying compensation. Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs
decided that Avagyan, an honorary director, should be forgiven,”
MP said.

Representative of the ministry present at press conference dismissed
Bakhshyan’s accusations concluding that damage “inflicted by honorary
director Avagyan was insignificant”.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
