YEREVAN. – The possible exploitation of an iron mine in Armenian
city of Hrazdan worries local residents and community organizations,
who have addressed an open letter to Armenian PM on the issue.

“Non-official sources inform that the government has ordered an
expertise on the territory of Hrazdan iron mine. The rumors circulating
in the city say that the study revealed uranium deposits in the mine,
which has caused a wave of anxiety among the people. We believe this
uncertainty might become ground for people’s irritation.

To avoid this, we kindly ask you to provide constructive explanations
on the issue,” reads the letter.

The letter is signed by number of NGO, including Hrazdan Aarhus Centre,
Forests for Future Generations NGO, Children Assistance Fund NGO,
Kotak AAC, and local Hrazdan TV channel.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
