Hovhannisyan stays on top

CHENNAI: The Armenian GM duo of Robert Hovhannisyan and Samvel
Ter-Sahakyan drew their top board game in the 10th round of the
SDAT-RAMCO 50th World Junior & 29th Junior Girls Chess Championships
here on Friday. The draw helped Hovhannisyan maintain half point lead
on 8.5 points, followed by Samvel and Darius Swiercz (Poland) on eight
points. Sharing fourth spot were GMs Baskaran Adhiban (India) and Ray
Robson (USA) with 7.5 points.

WGM from Peru Cori Tello Deysi stayed on top, holding Kubra Ozturk of
Turkey to a draw. Russian Olga Girya joined Deysi in lead after
scoring over Qizi Mammadova of Azerbaijan. Cori and Girya lead the
table with 8.5 points.

In the second board, Swiercz of Poland inflicted Indian FIDE Master
Girish A Koushik his second consecutive defeat. Also facing continuous
defeat was Italian Axel Rombaldoni, who went down to Indian
Grandmaster Baskaran Adhiban.

Chief Arbiter R Anantharam confirmed the following nine game norms
viz., GM norm for Vidit Santosh Gujrathi (India), and IM norms for
Janev Tihomir of Bulgaria and Vladislav Kovalev of Belarus. Among
girls, Klaudia Kulon of Poland gained a 9 game WIM norm.
