No need to prolong military service in Armenia-deputy MOD

July 23, 2011 | 19:06

BYURAKAN. – Issue of prolonging mandatory service term in Armenia is
not on current agenda, Armenian deputy MOD Davit Tonoyan told at the
meeting with `Baze’ camp participants in Byurakan on Saturday.

`Army service terms are prolonged based on quantitative resources. We
have many young people who are well trained and are ready for any
situation to protect the state. Currently there is no need to prolong
military service,’ deputy MOD told.

`Baze’ camp is implemented by Armenian Youth Foundation with the
support of Armenian MOD. The camp is held in three stages. First stage
takes place in Byurakan with 700 young Armenians. Second stage will be
in Tsakhkadzor with 350 young participants from Armenia Diaspora,
Artsakh and Javakhk. The camp will be over in the Republic Square on
August 27 with a gala concert.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
