Karabakh status to be decided by local people – Armenian foreign minister

Azerbaijan should first of all reconcile itself to a proposal of the
international community that a status of the Karabakh should be
decided by the people of Karabakh – via expression of the will, which
will have an obligatory legal effect, the state-owned Armenian Public
TV quoted Foreign Minister Edvard Nalbandyan as saying.

Nalbandyan has told the Armenian parliament that the Karabakh talks
are being held on this issue, and Azerbaijan should prepare its public
opinion for this very thought, the TV quoted Nalbandyan as saying.

Nalbandyan said this in a comment on a recent statement of Azerbaijani
Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, who had stated that the issue of
withdrawal of Karabakh troops from two districts adjacent to Nagornyy
Karabakh is currently discussed in the Karabakh talks, the TV
reported.

Nalbandyan expressed confidence that new reactions of international
community are to come when commenting on a recent statement by
Mammadyarov that proposal of the Armenian side to withdraw snipers
from the contact line between the Azerbaijani and Karabakh troops is
laughable and cannot be even discussed, the TV said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
