The minister of justice Hrayr Tovmasyan confirmed today that the
amnesty will apply to only some of the political prisoners. According
to him, amnesty has a broader purpose than just addressing a single
issue.

“Certainly, the amnesty will apply to part of those convicted for
March 1,” said Tovmasyan today, adding that he knows some people
relate the amnesty with March 1, whereas amnesty is intended to solve
broader issues.

As to Nikol Pashinyan and Sasun Mikaelyan, Hrayr Tovmasyan says it is
necessary to read the article and find out whether they are eligible.

As to Hovik Abrahamyan’s letter addressed to Serzh Sargsyan urging him
to release Sasun Mikayelyan, Tovmasyan noted that it differs from the
procedure of the amnesty, therefore another procedure will be applied.

As to whether the amnesty will apply to Vano Siradeghyan, the minister
said he knows nothing about it.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
