SAMVEL NIKOYAN: ARMENIA SHOULD TAKE THE INITIATIVE

Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly, representative of the Republican
Party Samvel Nikoyan considers that Armenia should take the initiative
in the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols.
Nikoyan believes, Armenia should not wait for Turkey to take steps.
With the process of normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations,
Armenia helps not only Turkey, but also Europe.
"Let’s look at the process from a different viewpoint. Turkey is
aspiring to join the EU, and we provide Turkey with an opportunity
to show that it is a country that shares European values," Nikoyan
told a press conference today.
The Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly finds it hard to say when
the Foreign Relations Committee will consider the protocols. No date
has been fixed.
According to the NA by-law, only after the corresponding committee
issues a positive conclusion will the documents be put on the agenda
of the National Assembly.
