HAK MARCHES THROUGH YEREVAN STREETS

10/march

The Armenian National Congress (HAK) and the Committee for the
Protection of Political Prisoners are holding a march today on the
occasion of Human Rights Day.

At present, the marchers are heading for Northern Avenue. They started
from the Statue of Saryan and stopped near the Statue of Miasnikyan
to commemorate the victims of March 1.

The Congress has issued a statement today which reads: "Human rights
are being violated in all spheres. The working regime determined to
hold the power at any cost continues unlawfulness keeping political
prisoners as hostages and terrorizing dissidents."

According to the organizers the march was held to curb illegality,
release political prisoners and stop injustice in Armenia.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
