ARMENIAN GDP FALLS BY 17.5% IN JANUARY-OCTOBER 2009 ON SAME PERIOD OF 2008

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 20, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenia’s GDP fell by 17.5% in
January-October 2009 on the same period of 2008 and amounted to 2
trillion 466 billion 298 million drams. The index-deflator of GDP
made 0.5%.
According to the RA National Statistical Service, industrial production
declined by 11.4% in Armenia in January-October 2009 on the same
period of last year and made 525bn 23.5m drams.
Gross agricultural output fell by 0.8% to 477bn 104.1m drams,
construction volumes declined by 41.6% to 430bn 694.8m drams. Retail
trade grew by 0.1% to 797bn 130m drams, and services declined by 1.5%
to 602bn 452.2m drams.
Foreign trade of Armenia fell by 31% in January-October 2009 on the
same months of 2008 and amounted 3bn 221.6m USD, with exports declining
by 40.7% to 551.6m USD and imports – by 28.5% to 2bn 570m USD.
Consumer prices rose by 3%, industrial production prices by 2.7%
in January-October 2009 as compared to the same petiod of 2008.
The number of the officially registered unemployed persons increased
by 17% in late October 2009 as compared to the same month of 2008
and amounted to 111.4 thousand.
The average monthly nominal salary amounted to 98,618 drams in
January-October 2009 (11.5% growth compared to January-October 2008),
including the average salary of 81,529 drams in the state sector (16.1%
growth) and the average salary of 123,160 drams in the private sector
(8.1% growth).
The average exchange rate of one US dollar made 359.18 drams in
January-October 2009.
