According to the legislation, the state budget 2008 has foreseen 50
million drams for assistance to NGOs and non-governmental press. Will
these funds be disbursed and how? The reporters asked this question
to the NKR prime minister a few days ago.
Ara Harutiunyan said: "Newspapers will not be funded."
The prime minister went on to say that there is a commission which
deals with this issue but he does not know the conclusion of the
commission yet.
"Experience shows that people set up NGOs and newspapers relying
on government funding. I think it is meaningless to set up NGOs on
government funding," the prime minister added.
