Mamikon Khachatryan (ARM)

One of two 19-year-old Armenian gymnasts to earn a pommel horse medal at the World Championships in Rotterdam on Saturday, Mamikon Khachatryan was both a good sport and in good spirits after teammate Hamlet Manukyan earned gold to his bronze.

“It’s an indescribable feeling again, especially that my I can compete with a friend together and earn places together,” said Khachatryan, who won silver on pommel horse at last year’s Worlds in Jakarta. “I’m very happy for my friend to earn first place.”

With Armenia hosting next year’s European Championships in Yerevan, Khachatryan said he intends to again be a dual force with Manukyan in pursuit of another podium finish.

“I will prepare the same way,” he said. “We will try our best to do good routines for our country and earn a medal.”
