On September 29, the State Security Service of Azerbaijan informed the National Security Service of Armenia that a serviceman from one of Azerbaijan’s military units had left his duty station under unknown circumstances.
The NSS reported this information.
“It was considered possible that he might have illegally crossed the border of the Republic of Armenia. Subsequently, the competent authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan conducted relevant search operations.
On October 1, at 14:15, the 112 Operational Management Center of the RA Ministry of Internal Affairs received a report that a citizen of the Republic of Armenia had been shot in the leg in the village of Shaki, Syunik Province.
Operational teams from various units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs police force were dispatched to the scene. Urgent measures were taken to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
It was determined that the crime was committed by an Azerbaijani serviceman, who has been detained.
Details of the incident have also been presented to the Azerbaijani side. Criminal proceedings regarding the incident have been initiated at the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia,” the statement reads.
