Armenia must make a decision on whether to hold a national referendum on EU membership or maintain EAEU membership by December 2026, when possible further steps regarding Yerevan will be discussed at a meeting of EAEU member states. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin stated this in an interview with TASS.

“It is obvious that if the referendum call is not heard before that moment, the leaders will take this fact into account when deciding on the appropriate further joint steps,” he noted.

The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister reminded that “the May 29 joint statement of the presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan regarding Armenia’s European aspirations speaks of the need to hold a national referendum on joining the EU or remaining in the EAEU in that country as soon as possible, but without specifying a specific date.”

“It has already been announced that this issue will be discussed again during the December session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, when the heads of state will be obliged to submit a report on the possible consequences for Armenia of the suspension of the EAEU Treaty of May 29, 2014,” Galuzin said.
