Narek Karapetyan, who heads the electoral list of the opposition “Strong Armenia” bloc, announced that the political force will take the parliamentary mandates in order to combine the street struggle and the work in the National Assembly. He announced this on his page on social networks, referring to public criticism.
In his address, Karapetyan denied the claims that the opposition is going to the parliament for the sake of privileges. According to him, the parliamentary mandate is exclusively a tool of political struggle, which entails additional pressures and complications. The politician emphasized that the importance of the mandate for the opposition is only problems and struggles, and there is “nothing to enjoy”.
Karapetyan also referred to the calls not to recognize the legitimacy of the elections and to refuse mandates on that basis. He noted that the international institutions ignored the arrests of hundreds of supporters of the opposition headquarters before the vote. According to him, foreign forces are turning a blind eye to the processes taking place in Armenia due to geopolitical considerations, with the aim of turning the country into another state hostile to the great powers, turning it into a “second Ukraine”.
In his statement, the leader of the list sharply criticized the ruling “Civil Pact” party, accusing their representatives of being foreign agents. Karapetyan expressed his belief that in order to implement serious political changes in the country, a combination of street struggle and a large representation of the opposition within the parliament is necessary, which will allow to ensure the change of power in a legal way at the right time.
Let’s remind that earlier, on July 4, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia upheld the decision of the Central Electoral Commission, rejecting the applications of the opposition forces to declare the results of the elections invalid.
