Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan strongly criticized the concept of “Western Azerbaijan” circulating in Azerbaijan, equating it to attempts to revive the Karabakh movement. The head of the government calls on both sides to abandon such rhetoric for the sake of regional stability and the peace process.

In recent years, official Baku has been actively promoting the so-called “Western Azerbaijan” political and ideological narrative, manipulating the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia under this term. Within the framework of this strategy, the Azerbaijani side regularly organizes state-sponsored events. In particular, a forum-festival on the theme of “Return to Western Azerbaijan” was held in Ordubad city of Nakhichevan, during which once again territorial demands directed at Yerevan were voiced.

Despite the fact that the official Yerevan Foreign Ministry did not respond to the incident, Nikol Pashinyan clarified the executive’s position during the briefing following the June 25 Cabinet meeting, stressing that such behavior by Baku is unacceptable, although he deeply understands its cause-and-effect relationships.

As a counterweight and a direct parallel, the head of the government also considered unacceptable any steps and actions aimed at resuming the agenda of the Karabakh movement within Armenia. The prime minister sees the resolution of the problem in mutual agreement to abandon similar policies. “The move is a strategic deal, it should be stopped bilaterally. It must be stopped. Attempts to continue the Karabakh movement should be stopped in Armenia as well,” the head of Armenia stated.
