We have a plan to rid Armenia of gas dependence. Narek Karapetyan, who heads the proportional list of the “Strong Armenia” alliance, said in a conversation with the journalists in “Sadarapat” that the government’s talk of finding an alternative to Russian gas.
Presenting the program, the figure noted that it is an expansion of barter cooperation with Iran.
“The load of the gas pipeline with Iran is now 30 percent. We have to make arrangements by transferring solar energy from Armenia to Iran and receiving a large amount of gas from there. (Solar energy is very developed in our country, and in general, at the level of Europe, Armenia has the best solar zone). With the received gas, we will be able to cover our domestic demand at a very cheap price,” commented Karapetyan.
He also mentioned that if they come to power and implement the program, for example, the gas tariff will be subsidized for pensioners.
“There will be subsidies also for those regions of RA where gas is mined for 5-6 months, for example, in Aparan,” added Karapetyan.
