A commemorative event marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held in Marseille, attended by French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu.

The French government shared a video from the event on X.

During the ceremony, the French Prime Minister delivered a speech honoring the memory of the 1.5 million Armenians who fell victim to the Armenian Genocide, as well as the Armenians who survived the genocide and found refuge and a homeland in France, particularly in Marseille and other French cities, where they were able to preserve their culture, language, and traditions.

He also recalled statements by early 20th-century French figures, including political and public figure Jean Jaurès, French Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau, writer and academician Anatole France, as well as others, regarding the crimes committed by the Ottoman Empire’s leadership against the Armenian people.
