Central Electoral Commission Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan said that fake news is the biggest threat to the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7 in Armenia.
“The biggest risk we currently assess for the elections is the spread of disinformation — falsehoods which, in our case, are also aimed at creating distrust in the electoral system,” Hovakimyan said at a press briefing.
Referring to live broadcasts from polling stations during voting, Hovakimyan noted that during the previous elections such broadcasts were carried out from 1,500 polling stations, covering 97 percent of voters.
“During the 2026 elections, we will ensure broadcasts from polling stations with more than 300 voters, which means about 1,800 polling stations. This means we will provide live broadcasts from polling stations covering 99 percent of voters. These live streams allow us to follow up on any issue,” the CEC official said.
