The Yerevan court of general jurisdiction today ruled to release Mher Avagyan, who had been detained under the criminal case regarding the “Gagik Soghomonyan” fake Facebook user account.

Avagyan’s attorney Mikayel Shkhimyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the court declared the decision of the investigator of the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia to detain Mher Avagyan unlawful, satisfied the attorney’s appeal and rejected the motion of the investigator to select arrest as a pre-trial measure for Avagyan.

On Feb. 19, officers of the NSS conducted searches in the offices of former chief of staff of the National Assembly Ara Saghatelyan, analyst Karen Bekaryan, Azerologist Anzhela Elibegova and constitutional expert Gohar Meloyan, seized their phones and computers and apprehended them.

Elibegova and Meloyan were released and refused to testify, while Karen Bekaryan, Ara Saghatelyan, Mher Avagyan and Aram Sargsyan were detained.

Today the court ruled to arrest citizen Aram Sargsyan.
