On October 9, German KUSS Quartet will perform an exclusive concert at Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall in Yerevan. As the press service at the festival reports, the concert will be held in the frames of the 20th edition of “Yerevan Perspectives” International Music Festival and will feature
Beethoven’s -String Quartet Op 59 “Serioso” F Minor, Johannes Brahms’s String Quartet Op 51 No 1. C Minor and Beethoven’s String Quartet Op 132 in A Minor.

The Berlin-based Kuss Quartet was founded by its violinists, Jana Kuss (first violin) and Oliver Wille in 1981, when they were only 14 years old. In 2002, the quartet acquired its superb violist William Coleman, who studied both in Salzburg with Thomas Riebl and Veronika Hagen at the New England Conservatory with Kim Kashkanian. Last but not least, the quartet was joined in 2008 by its exquisite cellist Mikayel Hakhnazaryan.

In early 2019, the Kuss Quartet was the first German string quartet to receive Stradivari’s legendary “Paganini Quartet” on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation. The quartet played Beethoven’s complete string quartet cycle on these instruments in June 2019, by invitation of the Suntory Hall, Tokyo.

“Yerevan Perspectives” International Music Festival is an annual, year round festival which invites to Armenia top famous classical musicians, orchestras, ensembles and so on. The festival also organizes special projects by cooperation with the Ministry of Culture of Armenia and with the other structures.

Remember Where You Came From: Kim and Kourtney Kardashian Baptise Their Kids in Armenia

The stars of the Keeping Up with The Kardashians reality television series had to use the presidential exit at the airport to hide from the hundreds of fans who had gathered there to catch a glimpse of their idols.
Kim Kardashian should perhaps have thought twice before she announced on social media her plans to visit Armenia with her sister Kourtney. The aggregate number of Kim’s followers on Instagram and Twitter stands at 210 million, so no wonder when the duo appeared at Zvartnots International Airport in the capital Yerevan they had to be rushed to the presidential exit to escape paparazzi and hundreds of fans.
Kim and Kourtney arrived in Armenia together with their kids – Saint, Psalm, North, Chicago, Mason, Penelope, and Reign. Although the Kardashians’ mother, Kris Jenner, is of Irish, Dutch, English, and Scottish descent, their late father Robert Kardashian was Armenian. The reality stars decided to baptise their kids, except for Kim’s North, who was baptised four years ago in Israel, in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, which is one of the most ancient Christian cathedrals in the world. Father Vahram Melikyan, director of the information department of the cathedral, said that there was no special ceremony and the Kardashians were treated like all other families.
This is the second time that Kim Kardashian travels to Armenia. Together with her sister Khloe, she paid tribute to the victims of the Armenian genocide in 2015. That year marked the 100th anniversary of the tragedy.
Since then, she has become quite involved with Armenia. This week, Kim will attend the 23rd World Congress on Information Technology in the country. In September the 38 year old socialite announced that she wants to move the production of SKIMS underwear to Armenia in order to create jobs in the impoverished country.
I will be visiting Armenia in the next 2 weeks and hope to seek ways I can help increase trade and hopefully create jobs for Armenians which includes @skims production there in the future.

ECHMIADZIN, Armenia – US reality television star Kim Kardashian West baptised her children on Monday during a visit to her ancestral homeland Armenia.

Kardashian wore a tight-fitting beige dress and stopped to take pouting selfies with local fans as she left Holy Echmiadzin, the Caucasus nation’s main cathedral.

She was accompanied by her four children – aged four months to six years – and sister Kourtney Kardashian, according to an AFP photographer. Her husband, rapper Kanye West, was not present.

The visit was the star’s first to the nation since a 2015 trip marking the centenary of mass killings of Armenians that saw her husband give a chaotic, impromptu concert in capital Yerevan.

Armenia says an estimated 1.5 million ethnic Armenians were killed by Ottoman forces in what it calls a genocide – a term rejected by Turkey, which puts the death toll at 500,000, blaming it on World War I raging at the time and starvation.

Kardashian is due to give a speech on Tuesday at the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT), which is being held in Armenia.

WCIT is organised by the World Information Technology & Services Alliance, a consortium of ICT associations from 83 countries, representing 90% of the industry, according to the congress’s website.

Kardashian’s Armenian ancestors on her father’s side emigrated to the United States from an area that now lies in Turkey.

Armenia was the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as an official religion, in the fourth century.

Happy baptism to Kim Kardashian West‘s kids!

Kim and Kanye West‘s three youngest children — Psalm, 4 months, Chicago, 20 months, and Saint, 3½ — were baptized Monday morning at the Etchmiadzin Cathedral in Vagharshapat, Armenia, as their aunt Kourtney Kardashian and her kids (Reign Aston, 4½, Penelope Scotland, 7, and Mason Dash, 9½) joined them for the ceremony, a source confirms to PEOPLE.

Video footage on one Instagram account showed Kim, 38, walking to the ceremony with all three of her younger kids plus her oldest, 6-year-old daughter North, followed by sister Kourtney, 40, and her three children. In a clip on her Instagram Story, the KKW Beauty founder held Psalm as they walked toward the cathedral.

The source tells PEOPLE that Kim and Kourtney are staying with their kids in the nearby capital city of Yerevan, pointing out that the “Etchmiadzin Cathedral is the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church.” (West, 42, is not along for the trip.)

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 5, ARMENPRESS. The Government of Armenia has declared ICT to be a sector of strategic importance and is ready to reform the education system, modernize strategic infrastructures and invest in human capital to make the country a technological global leader, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in a welcoming address ahead of the upcoming World Congress on Information Technologies (WCIT 2019) which will take place in Yerevan.

“Dear international guests, distinguished speakers and Armenian compatriots,

It is my privilege and great pleasure to welcome you all to the World Congress on Information Technology held in Armenia. I sincerely hope that over the next three days you will have a chance to enjoy everything that Yerevan has to offer.

I am extremely proud to learn that this is the first time in the WCIT’s 40-year history that the Congress is taking place in a small nation like Armenia. The World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) represents 90 percent of the global ICT community and frequently influences international public policy in IT matters.

The WITSA’s decision to hold this Congress in Yerevan is a compelling acknowledgement of Armenia’s status as a global technology hub.

Innovation and enterprise have long been central pillars of Armenian identity. Throughout history the Armenian people have produced scientists, engineers and inventors, who have disproportionately contributed to the progress of humanity and the raising of global living standards. As a Soviet Republic, Armenia nurtured a technology ecosystem which garnered it a reputation as “the Silicon Valley of the Soviet Union”. Since independence, Armenia has consolidated its position as a technology-driven economy.

The Government of Armenia has declared ICT as a strategic are of focus, passing legislation designed to attract international technology firms, and nurture a native industry. My administration has laid out a vision for our country which places IT as its core. In order to reach our goal of turning Armenia into a global tech leader, we are committed to reforming our education system, upgrading strategic infrastructure and investing in human resources.

Today Armenian startups boast a significant presence in Silicon Valley. Armenia’s technological prowess continues to be felt throughout the tech ecosystem, be it at large tech giants or innovative startups. To ensure the preeminence of Armenian tech well into the future, we will multiply our efforts to promote the proper educational and institutional infrastructure to meet the needs of a dynamically developing industry. This will allow local firms as well as multinational corporations to operate in Armenia while benefiting from the Armenian Diaspora’s strong network and vast resources.

As the host-country for the WCIT 2019, Armenia provides an invaluable setting which will gather the world’s leading thought-leaders, business leaders and political figures to discuss some of the most significant questions facing the future of technology, the results of which may have far-reaching social, economic and political ramifications for all of humankind.

I am certain that Armenia will live up to the critical role that we have taken on.

Looking forward to welcoming you to Armenia,” the Armenian PM said in the address published in the online brochure of WCIT 2019.

Asbarez: Glendale AYF Angered about News-Press Editorial Cartoon

An editorial cartoon appears in the Glendale News-Press

The Armenian Youth Federation Glendale “Roupen” Chapter issued, in a statement issued on Friday, called an editorial cartoon published in the Glendale News-Press, “divisive,” as it evidently attempts to target Artsakh Street, the stretch of Maryland Avenue renamed last year following a Glendale City Council decision.

Below is the text of the AYF “Roupen” Chapter statement:

The AYF Glendale “Roupen” Chapter finds the editorial cartoon below divisive and fallacious. Armenians have been residing in the city of Glendale for several decades and have contributed a great deal to the city. Instead of implicitly attacking specific groups, we recommend highlighting them and noting the significant developments they have made for the betterment of the city.
Juxtaposing an Artsakh Street sign with the headline, “I miss the old Maryland Avenue,” implicitly targets Glendale’s ethnic Armenian community. Mentioning restaurants that have long since closed is a crude attempt at masking the xenophobic intent of the cartoon.

For those uninformed on what Artsakh is and its significance to both Armenian and American culture, it would serve them well to educate themselves first before drawing racist caricatures. Artsakh is an independent republic that has continually fought for not only its sovereignty, but its very existence. The name and history hold a significant place in the hearts of Armenian-Americans, and evoke our most cherished American values — freedom, self-determination, and independence.

As the city celebrates the one-year anniversary of the renaming of this street, and in light of the incident last week when the Armenian Council on Aging building was vandalized with messages stating “Death to Armenians” and “Leave now,” it is extremely distasteful and unacceptable that the Glendale News-Press could be this tonedeaf and contribute to the perpetuation of racism in the city. These racist undertones are already evident in some of the comments under the Facebook post of this political cartoon, as people have begun to allude that Glendale was lost to an “invasion” years ago.

Jokes and satire have their place, but every satirical piece carries a message. With this cartoon, the Glendale News-Press bolsters a message of returning Glendale to the days before the diverse population made its mark. The Newspress should be reminded that in those “long gone” days, Glendale played host to avowed white supremacists and racists, and that “in the past” is exactly where that history should stay. Such a cartoon is absolutely unacceptable for a newspaper with the stature of the Glendale News-Press (acquired by the Los Angeles Times) to publish, a newspaper that is supposed to also represent the tens of thousands of Armenian-American residents of the city.

While folks may be deprived of Tony Roma’s and Chuy’s — all to no fault of the renaming — they do not need to be deprived of culture, acceptance, and the understanding that our collective diversity is what makes us all, including the city of Glendale, great.
