The Yerkrapah Volunteer Union was created by legendary people, on whose courage, blood and life, the independent statehood of Armenia and Artsakh was created, the security of our people was ensured, said Armenian Prime minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at the special congress of the Yerkrapah Union of Volunteer Land Defenders (UVLD), held in the sessions hall of the Government on 7 April.

“Many people have forgotten that not only Azerbaijani but also Soviet forces took part in the attacks on our compatriots in Karabakh. The situation in the early days of the conflict was catastrophic, it seemed that our people had no chance, but during the Karabakh war the same thing happened as during the battle in Sardarapat, contrary to all predictions and cold calculations that ignored the power of the spirit and the unity that the Armenian people had in 1988, as well as today, ”he said.

According to him, the Karabakh liberation war is important for the country and the future fate of the Armenian people. “We have proved that we can be masters of our own destiny. I hope that this congress of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union will unite all war veterans. But this historical responsibility did not make us aggressive. Vazgen Sargsyan said in this connection: “Nobody wants peace the way I do.” I think these words can be repeated by each of us today, ”noted Pashinyan.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
