Direct or indirect calls to review traditional for Armenia geopolitical priorities during this not calm period are really dangerous even if not brought to reality, Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan said at the Lazarev Club plenary session today in Yerevan.

“The Armenian-Russian relations need special care. IT and social networks create big opportunities for manipulating public moods, sow doubts and distrust among the people which will result in the erosion of our decades-long ties,” Kocharyan said.

He stressed that each friendship demands efforts, time, energy and emotions.

“Friendship has inertia but it cannot develop and be stable on its basis only. Friendship stops when concerns about the sincerity appear and when one of the parties want to get more than give. It is very difficult to be friend with constant beggars. Such relations are irritating,” Kocharyan said.

He stressed that friendly relations between countries is not just coincidence of interests it is a fusion of state interests and deep penetration of human factor in the relations of societies.

“I cannot find any other example of such relations like in case of Armenia and Russia. We have inherited them and we must exert efforts every day to maintain and develop them,” Kocharyan stated.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
