Russian Foreign Ministry on Karabakh settlement

Moscow/18.08.17/Turan: Press Secretary of the Russian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova commented on the situation around the
Karabakh settlement at a traditional briefing on Thursday, in response
to journalists' requests. "Russia has always supported measures aimed
at reducing tensions in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The
need for concrete steps in this direction was repeatedly stated by the
co-chairs, it was said at the summits in Vienna (May 2016) and St.
Petersburg (June 2016)," she said.

"The implementation of the measures proposed by the mediators depends
on the goodwill of the parties to the conflict. For our part, we are
doing our best to stabilize the situation and create conditions for
the continuation of the negotiation process aimed at achieving a
settlement. This approach prevailed at the meeting of the foreign
ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Moscow in April this year.

Now the co-chairs are working on the preparation of the next summit on
the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement. To this end, in July this year they
held talks in Brussels with the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and
Armenia. Consultations will be continued "on the sidelines" of the
next session of the UN General Assembly in New York in the second half
of September. Based on their results, a corresponding statement will
be made.

I would like to emphasize again what we regularly say at all levels:
in Russia, the Karabakh issue is given special attention, it is one of
our foreign policy priorities and is featured in the Foreign Policy
Concept of the Russian Federation," Zakharova said. -02D-
