FOUNDING PARLIAMENT CALLS ATTENTION TO GEVORG SAFARYAN’S CASE

Karapet Badalyan, one of the lawyers of Gevorg Safaryan, one of the
arrested members of the Founding Parliament opposition movement,
visited him in prison, the FP said in a statement.

“As has been said earlier, Gevorg Safaryan has been on hunger strike
since yesterday as a sign of protest against political persecution
and illegal imprisonment. Yesterday evening, Safaryan was transferred
to a ward designed for prisoners on hunger strike.

Earlier this month, Safaryan had health problems and needed examination
but the prison administration did not attend to the problem,” the
statement reads.

The Founder Parliament calls the attention of local and international
human rights organizations and observer missions to the fact in order
to prevent political, psychological or physical pressure on him in
the future.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
