Parliament: Armenia Will Never Accept Any Attempt To Divide Cyprus

PARLIAMENT: ARMENIA WILL NEVER ACCEPT ANY ATTEMPT TO DIVIDE CYPRUS

We are grateful to the friendly people of Cyprus for lending a helping
hand and providing shelter to the Armenian refugees, who had survived
the genocide committed against the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.

Armenian National Assembly (NA) President Galust Sahakyan, who is on
an official visit to Cyprus, stated the aforementioned at his meeting
Friday with Yiannakis Omirou, President of the House of Representatives
of Cyprus.

Sahakyan also underscored such mutual visits, and stressed that the
Armenian and the Greek peoples have walked side by side and supported
each other in difficult times for ages.

Extending his word of gratitude to the leader of the Cypriot
parliament, the NA speaker stated that it was back in 1975 that the
House of Representatives of Cyprus had adopted a resolution recognizing
the Armenian Genocide.

He also highly praised the ongoing political discourse between the
two countries. In Sahakyan’s words, Armenia is committed to continuing
cooperation with the European Union (EU), too.

In addition, the Armenian parliament chairman noted that Armenia has
never accepted and will never accept any attempt by Turkey to divide
Cyprus. He added that Armenia supports a pacific resolution of the
Cyprus issue, and by way of negotiations.

Galust Sahakyan also drew attention to Azerbaijan’s military
aggression, and the unsound policy conducted by the authorities of
this country.

Omirou, for his part, noted that Cyprus will always assist Armenia
within international organizations, and it will be Armenia’s friend
and supporter in the EU.

Following the talk, the leaders of the two countries’ parliaments
held a joint news conference.
