A court has fined Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan for calling
a monument to Armenian-Turkish friendship a “monstrosity” and ruled
that Erdogan must pay 10,000 liras to Mehmet Aksoy, the sculptor of
‘Monument to Humanity’, Hurriyet Daily News reports.

When serving as Turkish prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan called
the monument to Armenian-Turkish friendship “monstrous” during a
visit to the Kars region in 2011.

The 30-meter-high monument to Armenian-Turkish friendship was
demolished on Erdogan’s order due to the fact that it was located in
a conservation area.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
