Over 100 taxi drivers have started protests at the government’s
building against new licensing rules. They have blocked the nearby
road with their cars, News Armenia reports.

Vage Gabriyelyan, one of the demonstrators, said that the new licensing
rules oblige taxi drivers to pay 12,000 drams. In reality, he explains,
licensing will cost them over 30,000 drams because taxi drivers will
need to pay for the license itself and for the meter, a gas license
and other things.

Deputy Minister for Transport and Communication Artur Arakelyan
persuaded the protesters to choose five people who would discuss the
problem with the authorities at the government.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
