EU-Armenia Cooperation Council: good progress towards deeper cooperation

The Cooperation Council between the EU and Armenia met in Brussels
today, both sides confirming their commitment to deepen cooperation in
all areas possible.

The EU took note of progress in recent political and social reforms,
while encouraging Armenia to accelerate reform in specific areas,
notably democracy and the rule of law, anti-corruption, human rights
and fundamental freedoms, constitutional and judicial reform.

The Council welcomed the good progress made in implementing the
Mobility Partnership, the EU reiterating its commitment to enhance the
mobility of citizens in a secure and well-managed environment.

The EU confirmed its continued support for Armenia’s reform efforts,
and encouraged Armenia to make best use of the assistance it receives
from the EU – between EURO 140 and 170 million for 2014-2017, focused on
private sector development, public administration and justice sector
reform.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
