ARMENIA’S IT SECTOR NEEDS 2,000 QUALITY SPECIALISTS – SYNOSIS ARMENIA CHIEF

Synopsys Armenia’s executive director stressed the importance of
training highly qualified IT specialists, as he addressed the problems
in the sector at the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen’s Seventh
Congress in Yerevan.

Hovik Musalyan said that the sector currently needs 2,000
highly-trained professionals in the country.

“The problem is that our universities are not able to train appropriate
human resources to meet the demand on the market. It has two objective
reasons. One has to do with the faculty. The other is that the
sector is a dynamically developing branch, and frequent trainings
for professors are important, but they are very costly,” he noted.

As a second important factor, Musaelyan cited the technical basis.

“Foreign universities spend scores and millions of dollars for labs,
which we do not have in Armenia. I don’t think the government has
anything to do here; private cooperation may produce results,” he said,
meantime hailing a new parliamentary measure envisaging several years’
tax exemptions for newly established IT companies.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
