ARMENIA APPROVES RUSSIAN LOAN FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANT CONSTRUCTION

Armenian Finance Minister Gagik Khachatryan said that the country has
approved a Russian loan of $270 million and a grant of $30 million
for extension of the Metsamor nuclear power plant’s lifespan from
2016 to 2026, News.am reports.
Armenia decided to extend the plant’s lifespan on September 13, 2013.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with his Armenian
counterpart Serzh Sargsyan 10 days earlier that Rosatom specialists
would help with the technical project.
The Metsamor nuclear power plant was launched in 1976 and shut down
in 1989. The second block of the power plant (407.5MW) was launched
in early 1995.
