EXPERT: ARMENIA’S MEMBERSHIP IN CUSTOMS UNION TO GIVE NEW IMPETUS TO COUNTRY’S LIGHT INDUSTRY
YEREVAN, February 20. /ARKA/. Armenia’s membership in the Customs
Union will give a new impetus to the country’s light industry,
Vazgen Safaryan, chairman of the Union of Domestic Manufacturers,
said Thursday at a news conference.
He said the membership would be beneficial to the whole national
economy, since there are no customs barriers inside the union.
In particular, he said, Armenia will be able to produce shoes from
own leather and to expand textile industry.
Safaryan stressed the importance of restoration of Masis shoe factory,
whose products once were highly demanded all over the Soviet Union.
He also singled out Tosp knitting factory that not only sells its
products inside Armenia, but also exports them.
The export of certain goods, such as electrical devices, which are
highly demanded in Customs Union member countries, will become more
effective after accession of Armenia to the Customs Union.
Safaryan pointed out brandy, canned vegetables and fruits as well
as dried fruits as products highly demanded at the Customs Union’s
market. -0—
