ARMENIA SHOULD LEARN 3 LESSONS FROM EVENTS IN UKRAINE – NEWSPAPER

YEREVAN. – Zhamanak daily spoke with Regional Studies Center Director,
political analyst Richard Giragosian, concerning the events unrolling
in Ukraine. Below is an excerpt from the interview.

“What lessons should Armenialearn [from the events inUkraine]?

“In the case of Armenia, three lessons can be set apart. First,
it is very dangerous to ignore and not pay attention to the demands
for social change and reforms, and to control, instead of governing
the country.

“Second, the old opposition parties have no place any more, and this
needs to be paid attention to.

“Third, we need to understand: Both the West’s and Moscow’s policy
towards Ukraine is unproductive and wrong. Real change cannot
be brought from outside; a real democratic change should be from
withinArmenia.”

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
