Armenia’s level of self-sufficiency in essential foods will increase
to 80 % by 2020, agriculture minister Sergo Karapetyan said today.
According to the ministry data, the food self-sufficiency level
is about 60 percent now. The self-sufficiency in wheat production
is only 35-36 % that of poultry production is even less – 12-20 %,
while that of pork production is 41 %.
The self-sufficiency level for potatoes, melons, fruits, grape,
mutton and goat meat, beef and egg production is quite high. The same
is true regarding production of milk and dairy products.
