Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union will be high on the agenda
of the Armenian-Russian presidential meeting scheduled for December 2,
political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told Tert.am.

“It will also be within the framework of the previously reached
agreements. I think the presidents’ meeting will give a new impetus
to the process,” the expert said. He points out great expectations
in the context of the latest regional developments. Both Turkey
has intensified its regional activities and competition between
the European Union and Russia has been stepped up. By and large,
the region has turned into a center of geopolitical competition.

“Therefore, a rather wide range of issues is going to be discussed at
the bilateral presidential meeting, with a view to reaching unanimity
on all of them,” Melik-Shahnazaryan said.

Political scientist Levon Shirinyan said that the issue of Armenia’s
accession to the Customs Union is settled.

“The issue was settled on September 3. Russia decided to create
a power center in the world, with neither China nor the United
States objecting to it. But the European Union is bargaining for its
influence,” he said. Armenia’s leadership must expedite accession to
the Customs Union.

“Armenia will only benefit. But it must also feel responsible for
each of its steps. Today’s decision is for decades,” the expert said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
