Tensions in Armenia’s Ararat as election day draws near

Haykakan Zhamanak: Tensions in Armenia’s Ararat as election day draws near

10:54 – 09.11.13

Just two days before the pre-term mayoral election in Ararat, a troop
of red berets has been sent to the town, the paper has learned.

Several residents of Ararat have told the paper that they are now
facing a kind of artificial tension ahead of the voting day.

`The sides (the candidates from the ruling Republican Party of Armenia
and the Prosperous Armenia party) had been long preparing for this
election, and even started enrolling their `own people’ long before
the nomination period, voicing mutual accusations against one
another,’ writes the paper, commenting on the situation in the town.
