POLITICAL SCIENTIST: ZORI BALAYAN’S LETTER IS ILL-CONCEIVED STEP

Zori Balayan is an intellectual of an old type – he lived in the Soviet
period when different traditions and morals existed. He is a bearer
of Soviet-era values. Political scientist Yervand Bozoyan expressed
such an opinion at a meeting with reporters today, when commenting
on Zori Balayan’s open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In the political scientist’s opinion, Z. Balayan was guided by the
Soviet mentality when he wrote that letter whose goal is to pave the
way for entry into the Customs Union among the public.

“The Armenian authorities evoked Russia’s mistrust in recent years
and they are now doing everything to regain the trust and show
that Armenia has a positive attitude to the existing geopolitical
situation,” Bozoyan said. He added that it was a thought-out letter,
which, however, evoked a negative reaction among the Armenian public.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
