MINISTER: RUSSIA TO BE THE BEST MARKET FOR ARMENIAN GOODS IN THE COMING 15 OR 20 YEARS
YEREVAN, October 8. /ARKA/. Armenian Energy and Natural Resources
Minister Armen Movsisyan, commenting today on Armenia’s decision
to joint the Customs Union, said Russia will be the best market for
Armenian goods in the coming 15 or 20 years.
In early September, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and his Russian
counterpart, Vladimir Putin, made a joint statement, according to
which Armenia has decided to join the Customs Union and to take part
in formation of the Eurasian Union in the future.
Movsisyan told journalists that the process of joining the Customs
Union will be quite complicated – Armenia has to bring some 120
agreements in conformity with the Customs Union’s law.
“It is difficult to indicate particular terms, but special groups
are working day and night,” he said.
The minister said that the price for Russian natural gas imported
to Armenia was not the most important motive for joining the Customs
Union though it had certain significance.
According to official statistical reports, Armenia’s exports totaled
$201.6 million in Jan-Aug 2013 (19.5% year-on-year growth) making up
5.5% of the country’s foreign trade turnover ($ 656.4 million).
