DECISION TO JOIN CUSTOMS UNION WAS LADEN WITH HUGE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ARMENIA’S FUTURE – ARF

September 04, 2013 | 17:10

YEREVAN. – What was announced in Moscow about the decision forArmenia’s
joining the Customs Union is crucial and as much a decision laden
with huge responsibility for Armenia’s future.

The opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party’s Armenia Supreme Body released
a statement with such content.

“One could have assumed that Armenia was to join the Customs Union,
which is launched by it strategic partner [i.e., Russia] and be
engaged in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union.

“But the problem is that, before that, the authorities of the Republic
of Armeniahad not provided necessary information to the public and
the political forces. Furthermore, they held negotiations for years
on end toward joining the free trade area of the European Union and
reached the threshold of initialing the EU Association Agreement.

“We can assume that the primary reason for the Armenian president’s
surprise decision in Moscow was the security issues of Armenia and NKR
[i.e., the Nagorno-KarabakhRepublic].

“The president’s surprise decision has raised numerous questions
among the public. In our case, any economic integration must give
clear guarantees for maintaining and consolidating the security
and developing the economy of the Republics of Armenia and
Nagorno-Karabakh.

“[But] Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union shall not become
an obstacle before the continuation ofArmenia’s activities in the
European direction.

“We demand from Armenia’s authorities to inform the public when making
such crucial decisions for the country and to make the political
forces become a participant in the decision,” ARF Dashnaktsutyun
Party’s Armenia Supreme Body’s statement reads, in particular.

Gynecologist Speaks On Sexual Problems And Their Causes In Armenia

GYNECOLOGIST SPEAKS ON SEXUAL PROBLEMS AND THEIR CAUSES IN ARMENIA

SEPTEMBER 4, 13:32

“I always assess positively the open discussions on sex, health. And it
seems to me that if we want for people to have a healthy sex life, the
matter on sex education needs to be raised in schools [in Armenia].”

Renowned gynecologist Georgi Poghosyan stated the aforesaid Wednesday,
during a press conference devoted to World Sexual Health Day.

As per the specialist, working abroad is a factor that causes sexual
problems in Armenia.

“The men are away from their family for months. They will have to
satisfy their [sexual] needs. In numerous cases, infections are the
cause for the unhealthy sexual condition of men,” Poghosyan said.

In his words, a healthy approach is needed toward sex.

“Many diseases are caused by lack of sex. A variety of fears develop,
too,” the gynecologist added.

In the specialist’s conviction, there is solely one solution.

“It would be good to pass a law [in Armenia] that each material on
sex and sexual life receive a ‘visa’ from a specialist,” he noted.

In addition, as per the gynecologist, it would be good if the state
adopt a law, pursuant to which people are required to undergo a
medical before getting married.

“In this way, the number of cases of miscarriages and infertility
will reduce [in Armenia],” Georgi Poghosyan concluded.

GAGIK MAKARYAN: ARMENIA-EU ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT WILL NEVERTHELESS BE INITIALED IN NOVEMBER

I believe that Armenia’s possible membership to the Customs Union does
not mean that Armenia cannot initial the Association Agreement with
the European Union, chairman of the Republican Union of Employers of
Armenia Gagik Makaryan told Panorama.am in an interview.

According to him, the Armenia-EU Association Agreement will
nevertheless be initialed in Vilnius in November because Armenia has
done a big work with Europe, and has achieved much success.

“It is not accidental that the Armenian President stated that Armenia
has an improved competitiveness situation, so we should not miss that
chance,” Makaryan said.

As to Armenia’s membership to the Customs Union, according to the
speaker, Armenia took into account the current political situation
and the situation of war in the neighboring countries as well as the

NAVASARDYAN: ARMENIA CAN COMBINE CUSTOMS UNION AND ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT

16:48 04/09/2013 ” POLITICS

President Serzh Sargsyan’s agreement to the Customs Union membership
is praiseworthy. But we will lose much if we reject the Association
Agreement with the European Union, the former Armenian ambassador to
Lebanon, Arman Navasardyan, told reporters in Yerevan.

According to Navasardyan, integration processes are continuous and
if Armenia manages to carry out such policy that both the European
Union and the Customs Union want to see Armenia as their member,
then it will be possible to combine both vectors.

ARMENIA’S DECISION TO JOIN THE CUSTOMS UNION WAS NOT UNEXPECTED TO BRUSSELS, POLITICAL SCIENTIST SAYS

18:54 04.09.2013

“Radiolur”

Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union was not unexpected to
Brussels, political scientist Sergey Minasyan told reporters today.

“Brussels’ negative reaction to Armenia’s decision to join the Customs
Union is understandable, but it was not a surprise to the EU, taking
into consideration its earlier assessment of Russia’s harsh position
towards Ukraine. This shows that is well aware of the situation
Armenia found itself in,” the political scientists declared.

“At the same time it should be clear that the results of yesterday’s
meeting in Moscow do not mean a u-turn in Armenia’s cooperation with
the European Union,” Minasyan said, reminding that Serzh Sargsyan
also made this clear in his speech. He said, in this regard Armenia’s
presence at the Vilnius Summit will be interesting.

According to the Head of the Institute of CIS States Alexander
Markarov, yesterday’s decision of Armenia was to a certain extent an
indication of consistency, as Armenia had never declared that it was
not going to deepen integration over the CIS territory.

Markarov said the relations with the European Union and separate
countries will continue. “The question is about the format of this
cooperation,” he added.

Navasardian: Armenia Didn’t Act Adequately To Help Syrian Armenians

NAVASARDIAN: ARMENIA DIDN’T ACT ADEQUATELY TO HELP SYRIAN ARMENIANS

[ Part 2.2: “Attached Text” ]

Wednesday,Ā SeptemberĀ 04

A St. Bartholomew Massacre awaits the Armenian community of Syria
if the U.S. takes military actions against that country, the former
Deputy Armenian Foreign Minister Arman Navasardian said at a meeting
with reporters today.

In his words, Armenia didn’t take adequate actions to assist Syrian
Armenians.

“The decision on a military strike against Syria is conditioned by two
circumstances – first, the results of the UN experts’ investigation
into the alleged chemical weapons attack, and secondly, the decision
of the Unites States Congress. I think the Congress will give its
consent on September 9,” Navasardian noted.

The former deputy foreign minister said that unless Obama starts
military action in Syria after making so many statements, he will
lose his authority worldwide.

“Nevertheless I believe that air strikes will be launched.

Otherwise, in case of a land-based invasion, a ‘large fire’may break
out in the Middle East,” Arman Navasardian said.

Dennis Sammut: The Decision, Which Has Been Taken With Very Little P

DENNIS SAMMUT: THE DECISION, WHICH HAS BEEN TAKEN WITH VERY LITTLE PUBLIC CONSULTATION, WILL NO DOUBT STIR A DEBATE
by Emmanuil Lazarian

arminfo

There is nothing astonishing about the decision of the Armenian
President to opt to join the Russian led Customs Union and the Eurasian
Economic Union, Commonspace.eu political editor, Director of LINKS
Dennis Sammut said on Commonspace.eu.

“In fact this is what many had been expecting all along. This
is a decision for the Armenian government to make and it is up
to the Armenian people, not others, to question it. What is quite
astonishing however is that Armenia had for several years been pursuing
a completely different course by engaging in negotiations to sign an
Association Agreement with EU and a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade
Agreement, and had indicated until a few days ago that this what it
was going to do. How this all of a sudden stopped being rational is
perplexing,” Sammut said.

He believes that nobody in Brussels or anywhere else in the European
Union lost any sleep last night because of Sargsyan’s decision. “In
fact a more closely associated Armenia would have necessitated
considerable economic and financial commitment on the part of the EU
which will now not be necessary. One would assume that next time Mr.

Putin goes to Yerevan he will bring his chequebook with him. But
internationally there will be questions about how Armenia goes about
doing international relations, and domestically the decision, which
has been taken with very little public consultation, will no doubt
stir a debate,” Sammut said.
