FARE RISE ON AGENDA AGAIN

14:49 18.09.13

The issue of fare rise is again on the agenda of the Yerevan
Municipality.

Head of the Public Relations Department, Yerevan Municipality, Artur
Gevorgyan told Tert.am that the relevant commission is expected to
make proposals.

A source at the Yerevan Municipality told ArmInfo news agency that
the fare rise will be announced after September 21. Specifically,
the bus fare may reach AMD 250 (AMD 100 now), fixed-run taxi fare
AMD 200 (AMD 100 now) and trolleybus fare AMD 100 (AMD 50 now).

The source also said that protests will not produce any result this
time as the decision has been approved by President Serzh Sargsyan.

Tert.am reported earlier that Yerevan’s City Council was to hold
public hearing of the fare issue.

In its Wednesday issue the Haykakan Zhamanak newspaper addressed the
problem as well.

The No Fare Rise movement member Karen Harutyunyan told Tert.am that
Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan’s decision raising the fares was expected
to be suspended and revised.

“The commission’s aim is to justify the fare rise and to think of
the ways of struggling against the people,” Harutyunyan said.

Lori Cheese: Unsafe For United States But Safe In Armenia?

LORI CHEESE: UNSAFE FOR UNITED STATES BUT SAFE IN ARMENIA?

Marine Madatyan

In August of this year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration blocked
the importation of a certain type of Lori Cheese from Armenia on
sanitary grounds.

The FDA website says the cheese in question, manufactured by the
Gyumri firm AMM LLC, is unsafe for consumption and appears to have
been contaminated.

On September 13, the FDA published alist of cheeses from imported from
various countries that based on FDA sampling and analyses appear to
contain microbiological contamination.

The list states that the Lori cheese in question appears to contain
Escherichia coli (Typical).

AMM LLC manager Astghik Hakobyan told Hetq that they started to export
the cheese to the U.S. this year.

“We know that the examination is ongoing and have received no final
results. But we have analysis results from Armenia and nothing was
found in the cheese,” Hakobyan said.

Hakobyan couldn’t say what laboratory in Armenia analyzed the cheese.

She added that the cheese had also been examined by the Ministry of
Health’s Food Safety Inspectorate.

Armenia’s Food Safety Inspectorate last published a report on AMM
LLC cheese in August, 2012.

That report found the cheese of 18 manufacturers out of the 59 sampled
as unsafe due to the presence of various bacteria including E. coli.

AMM LLC was one of the 18 manufacturers.

Ohanian: Army Declares War On Street Ways

OHANIAN: ARMY DECLARES WAR ON STREET WAYS

Wednesday,
September
18

>From now on, the army declares war on street ways, Armenian Defense
Minister Seyran Ohanian said at the meeting with students of Yerevan
State University today.

“Yes, we declare war. I want you jointly with us to struggle against
these customs which are often considered normal in civilian life and
are even advertised on television. It is a bad mistake because our
children also start to consider such ways normal. They try to resemble
such people, which is a serious mistake. The army and educational
institutions where children are educated are the places where the
struggle against such ways must be carried on,” the minister stated
adding that 2014 should become a turning point in this sense.

“I think that starting from 2014, we may become a driving force
capable of preventing and eliminating the negative ways in society,”
the defense minister said, noting that only by emphasizing the
positive phenomena, it would be possible to struggle against the
current negative modes of behavior.

“We should find the best farmer, best worker, best teacher, and best
businessman and inform our youths about them. Youths should not be
brought up based on examples of street ways so that they would not
instill such manners in the army,” Seyran Ohanian said.

NKR Has Nothing To Do With Territorial Integrity Of Azerbaijan: Defe

NKR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY OF AZERBAIJAN: DEFENSE MINISTER

15:54, 18 September, 2013

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS: The peaceful settlement of the
Nagorno Karabakh Republic conflict is an important direction for the
Republic of Armenia. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of
the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan on September 18. As reported
by Armenpress, the Defense Minister noted that the availability of the
Artsakh Republic in the region has nothing to do with the territorial
integrity of Azerbaijan.

According to Seyran Ohanyan, touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh
Republic, all should understand that it is a part of our historical
motherland. “If we refer to all our historical and legal sources,
we will see that it is true”, – said the Defense Minister.

Seyran Ohanyan emphasized that the NKR conflict can be settled only
via a dialogue and noted that the first step to be made is to form an
atmosphere of trust, due to which actions could be made so that the
situation in the contact line does not harm the negotiations process.

As stated by the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Seyran
Ohanyan, in the formation of the atmosphere of trust quite important
is to withdraw the snipers from the line of contact, to avoid the
subversive investigative activities, to establish connection via
hotline and establish communication on the level of the Ministers
of Defense.

TURKEY’S INTRUSION TO SYRIA WILL ENDANGER ALEPPO-ARMENIAN COMMUNITY: R. SAFRASTYAN

Armenian Bonds Could Be Named Kardashian

ARMENIAN BONDS COULD BE NAMED KARDASHIAN

14:55, 18 September, 2013

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS. Armenia has just wrapped up its road
show drumming up interest for its debut dollar denominated bond, which
is expected to hit the market this week or next, as reports Armenpress,
Serena Ruffoni and Katie Martin write in The Wall Street Journal blog.

When it lands, expect intense interest in its funding costs, especially
now that the easy money days that have helped other frontier issuers
borrow at knock-down rates are coming to an end.

Dollar bonds issued outside the US often have nicknames. Kangaroo
Bonds from Australia. Samurai Bonds from Japan.

And Armenia, among many things, is famous for it’s apricots, which
are thought to have originated there, and, Los Angeles’s finest,
the Kardashians. Apricot Bonds has a nice ring to it. But alas,
it’s unlikely to catch on. Tim Ash, an emerging markets analyst
at Standard Bank, has already coined Kardashian Bonds in notes to
clients, quipping “that wrapper has gotta be worth a few basis points,
providing something of a bottom for this credit.”
