The civil movements in Armenia are gradually ousting the political
parties from the real political processes, Tigran Khzmalyan, film
director, member of the Preparliament initiative, said at today’s
press conference.

He thinks that the recent events connected with the protest against the
public transport fare rise in Yerevan and construction of a high-class
apartment building in Komitas Street, as well as the passivity of
the parties considering themselves opposition have demonstrated the
specified parties’ inadequacy and their inability to take effective
measures to fight the incumbent regime.

“I do not think that one should rely on the parties. Certainly, most
youth representatives of some parties took part in our actions. But
on the whole, the leaders of the parties were spending their vacation
in Kobuleti or Antalya while we were fighting against the unlawful
acts of the Government and the Yerevan Municipality in the summer heat.

Consequently, they have nothing to do with real politics. Armenia
experiences a new situation – it is the young activists, honest and
unselfish, that are on the frontline of the fight against the ruling
system”, he said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
