Armenian Family Spending Nights In Car In France

ARMENIAN FAMILY SPENDING NIGHTS IN CAR IN FRANCE

August 24, 2013 | 10:02

Authorities of the French Auch refused to grant work permission and
status of political refugee to an Armenian family who are forced to
spend night in the car, Sud Ouest newspaper writes.

Three-year-old Ylena, her 2-year-old brother Arthur, and their
parents Ruzanna and Avetis Markosyan are spending nights in car,
as their request for asylum was rejected in France.

The Markosyans arrived in France in July 2011 when Ruzanna was
pregnant. And she gave birth on the same day, when she entered the
French soil. So, little Arthur is French, but his elder sister and
parents lead a long, hard struggle to get the right to stay and to
be granted a status of political refugees.

Ruzanna managed to find job of a nurse, but Auch prefecture did not
give her permission to work. Deprived of the opportunity to work and
get paid, Ruzanna and two children cannot be accommodated in shelters,
not to mention the rental apartment.

The Armenian family was refused by the National Commission on the
Rights of refugees after the first failure on the part of the French
office on protection of refugees and stateless persons.

The secretary general of local administration promised they would
receive the family to discuss the situation, adding that deportation
is not on the agenda.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
