DASHNAKTSUTIUN: ARMENIAN LANGUAGE SHOULD BE ANNOUNCED THE SECOND ADMINISTRATIVE LANGUAGE IN GEORGIA’S JAVAKHK

YEREVAN, July 26. /ARKA/

Armenian language should be announced the second administrative
language in Georgia’s Javakhk, Gaspar Karapetyan, chairman of the
European Committee of Hay Dat of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation/
Dashnaktsutiun, said today at a news conference.

“The majority of Javakhk Armenians have no command of Georgian
language, and our main demand to Georgian authorities is to make
Armenian language the second administrative language,” he said.

Karapetyan is convinced that this demand is a legal right of Javakhk
Armenians, who are full-right citizens of Georgia.

He said that the Hay Dat European Committee is discussing the matter
in Georgia and in Brussels.

“Upon completion of the presidential election we will continue
negotiating, and we hope Javakhk Armenians will have the Armenian as
the second administrative language, since the matter is very important
to them,” Karapetyan said.

Javakhk sits on the junction of Georgia, Armenia and Turkey’s borders
and is an area populated by Armenians. Some 91% to 97% of Georgia’s
Armenians live in Javakhk.

Georgia’s presidential election is scheduled for October 2013. —0—-

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
