July 16, 2013 | 13:29
YEREVAN. – Industrial agriculture, which includes agricultural branches
that require large capital investments, is forming in Armenia,
said consulting service director Tigran Jrbashyan, during a press
conference on Tuesday.
He stated that the aforesaid refers to large horticultural farms,
greenhouses, and pisciculture.
Jrbashyan noted that as a result of a research that was conducted
in forty countries in CIS and Eastern Europe, it was found out that
Armenia has the largest share of agriculture in the country’s GDP,
with 19-20 percent.
But, as per the expert, Armenia has serious problems in terms of
productivity.
“This [i.e., the industrial agriculture] sector represents a great
demand for loans. [And] the productivity growth brings forth a need
for large capital investments,” Tigran Jrbashyan concluded.
