Armenia’s Lake Sevan is perfect place for regattas – expert

YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Lake Sevan may become a perfect place to hold
regattas with Sevan’s traditional boats, Ayas Club President Karen
Balayan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
To note, the construction of such boats is one of the projects of this club.
`We have built two traditional boats. They are very fast, [and] it is
very interesting to hold regattas with them. These are the same boats
that you come across in the 18th-19th century pictures. Ten [such]
boats are planned to be built and to organize international regattas.
The idea is in effect, but, sadly, we so far have found sponsors for
[the construction of] solely two boats.
This is an Armenia-based project to attract tourists. What’s important
is that we are experienced. We participate in international
competitions ever since 1994, and we are capable of organizing
highest-level regattas [in Armenia],’ Balayan said, in particular.
