Armenia’s heroic battles in May were war – historian

YEREVAN. – The most important lesson and counsel of Armenia’s heroic
battles that were fought in May was that these battles were truly a
war. That is, it was a struggle for yet again achieving the right to
live on our land.

Dean Edik Minasyan of the Faculty of History at Yerevan State
University stated the aforesaid during a press conference on Saturday.
He spoke about the abovementioned heroic battles and the historical
and political significance of the First Republic of Armenia
(1918-1920).

In his words, there were no class and party affiliation issues during
those battles.

`The inspired [Armenian] people, [who had] become one fist, came out
to fight against the foe because this was a critical war. Our nation
proved the victory of its unity. We shall not forget that in those
days they were fighting all together with arms against the Turkish
foe.

And the third greatest counsel was the unity of our regular army and
militia. [It was] truly a culmination point of collective forces and a
triumph of unity,’ Minasyan added.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
