Aghvan Hovsepyan Escaped From Questions

A few weeks ago the people of Byurakan expressed concern that machines
have been brought to the gorge which destroy the valley to build
another water power plant. They people of the village say the son of
the prosecutor general is the head of the water power plant.

On May 9 a cross stone was dedicated in Byurakan village. The
ceremony was attended by the prosecutor general Aghvan Hovsepyan and
the minister of defense Seyran Ohanyan. Aghvan Hovsepyan avoided
answering any questions.

The people of the village said no public hearing was held on the
construction, the illegal construction goes with impunity. The reality
is that the villagers try to administer justice themselves. In one
place they removed the machinery from the gorge, in another place they
rolled the pipes for the water power plant into the river. The
prosecutor general who is the first person to act in accordance with
the law and serve as a model commits illegal actions.

The villagers say once a water power plant is built, they will not be
able to farm their land, given the shortage of water in summer.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
